March 10, 2016The Yale Bulldogs have made it to the NCAA Tournament. Here’s a preview of the team and a prediction of how they’ll do during March Madness.
Team: Yale Bulldogs
Record: 22-6
Conference: Ivy League
Head coach: James Jones
How they got here: Won conference
Yale features a pair of quality scorers in Makai Mason and Justin Sears, two players who average 15.8 points a game each but play different games. Mason is the slasher/passer who makes things happen with the ball in his hands. He can also knock down just enough shots from the perimeter to keep opponents honest. Sears isn’t a back-to-the-basket guy, but he works primarily inside and doesn’t try to do too much. Brandon Sherrod provides support in the paint.
Yale has battled through adversity to get to the NCAA Tournament – captain Jack Montague is no longer with the team as part of an ongoing controversy/mystery – and there’s a question of how mentally focused this team will be. Yale doesn’t have the size or athleticism of other teams in the Dance, either, which could mean an early exit.
The Bulldogs played the likes of SMU, Duke and USC this season, but they didn’t beat any of those teams and just don’t have the athleticism to stick with the big boys in the early rounds of the tournament. This is a one-and-done team.
