The No. 3-ranked safety in the state of Georgia has made up his mind on where he’ll spend his college career.
On Sunday, at the 2017 Under Armour All-America Game, Xavier McKinney committed to Alabama.
The No. 17 safety and No. 180 overall player in the country chose the Crimson Tide over Clemson and Ohio State.
McKinney had previously been committed to Nick Saban’s staff. He gave his pledge on Sept. 23, 2015, but he later decommitted from Alabama on July 14.
Now, the Tide has 26 total commits in the cycle. The addition of McKinney added 204 recruiting points and added to its lead as the No. 1 overall class in the 2017 recruiting rankings. It now has 5,006 recruiting points and is 511 points ahead of No. 2 Michigan.
At 6-foot-1, 192 lbs McKinney is an all-around threat when he roams in the secondary. He possesses great ball skills and reads the ball well off the quarterback’s hand.
As a senior this past season, McKinney racked up 82 total tackles, and 60 of them were solo tackles. He also picked off seven passes and recorded nine pass deflections, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and a blocked field goal.
The Crimson Tide currently has pledges from 4-star safety Daniel Wright, 4-star JUCO cornerback Jhavonte Dean, and 3-star cornerback Kyriq McDonald. But those are just the additions to the secondary.
Alabama has commitments from nine defensive recruits, highlighted by 5-star linebackers Dylan Moses and VanDarius Cowan, along with 5-star JUCO defensive end Isaiah Buggs.
