Wyoming vs. New Mexico prediction and game preview. Projecting who wins Saturday night’s matchup between the Cowboys and Lobos.

    When: Saturday, Nov. 26 – 10:15 p.m. ET
Where: University Stadium, Albuquerque, New Mexico
    TV Broadcast: ESPN 2

Look at who’s in first place in the Mountain West’s West division. It’s Wyoming (8-3), who has had a solid season thus far. The Cowboys were riding a five-game winning streak into November before they fell on the road to UNLV in triple overtime, 69-66. However, Craig Bohl’s team bounced back last weekend at home with a win over San Diego State, 34-33.

Two spots below Wyoming in the division are the third-place Lobos (7-4). New Mexico also found itself riding a five-game winning streak after it took down Air Force, Louisiana-Monroe, Hawaii, Nevada and Utah State. But on Saturday, Bob Davie’s team ran into Colorado State and fell to the Rams on the road, 49-31.

The all-time series between these two programs is close, very close. Wyoming has the lead, 35-33. But it’s been New Mexico who has taken the last two meetings, including last season’s 38-28 win in Laramie.

    What To Know About Wyoming

Josh Allen had a solid outing for the Cowboys in the win over San Diego State. He completed 16-of-31 passes for 282 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. C.J. Johnson caught one of those touchdowns and ended up with five grabs for 85 yards. Jake Maulhardt caught the other touchdown and finished with three catches for 84 yards.

On the ground, Brian Hill was his usual dominant self. He ran for 131 yards on 31 carries and found the end zone twice. Allen helped move the chains with his legs by picking up 56 rushing yards on 15 carries.

What to Know About New Mexico

The Lobos split the time at quarterback between Austin Apodaca and Lamar Jordan once again. The former connected on 4-of-11 passes for 51 yards and a touchdown. Jordan completed 2-of-5 throws for 30 yards and a touchdown. It was Dameon Gamblin who was on the receiving end of both scoring strikes. He finished the game with five receptions for 76 yards. The only other New Mexico player who caught a pass was Emmanuel Harris. He had one grab for five yards.

Tyrone Owens carried the Lobos on the ground. He ran for 157 yards and a touchdown on 12 rushing attempts. Teriyon Gipson took his 15 touches for 68 yards, and Jordan added 32 yards of his own on nine carries. The only other rushing touchdown was scored by Richard McQuarley, who ran for 22 yards on seven carries.

    Advantages

Offense: Wyoming – Allen has been spinning the ball well, and New Mexico’s quarterback situation is a mess.

Defense: New Mexico – The Lobos are No. 95 in scoring defense, allowing 32.2 points per game.

Special Teams: New Mexico – Jason Sanders has made all 51 extra point attempts and 11-of-12 field goals.

Coaching: Wyoming – Bohl has done a fantastic job coaching this team and has it atop the division.

    Matchup To Watch

Lamar Jordan and Austin Apodaca vs. Wyoming defense

New Mexico needs one of its quarterbacks to step up here. Allen is going to sling the rock for Wyoming, and the Lobos need to find an answer of some kind. Owens and Gipson can only do so much as it is. If Apodaca and Jordan don’t protect the ball, the Cowboys will take advantage and flip the field. Jordan also has to play a big role in the running game, too.

    Betting Odds

    Spread: Wyoming -3
Over/Under: No line as of publication

    Wyoming vs. New Mexico Prediction

Allen is going to toss dimes against New Mexico. He’ll throw for 200-plus yards and a couple of touchdowns without turning the ball over. He’ll run for a touchdown, too. With Hill controlling the clock and gashing the Lobos for first down after first down, New Mexico just won’t be able to generate the kind of offense it will take to outscore Wyoming. Bohl leads his team to another win.

Wyoming vs. New Mexico Score Prediction: Wyoming 35, New Mexico 24
