Three-star cornerback Wylan Free decommitted from USC on Thursday, making that two decommitments for the Trojans in less than a week.

For the second time in four days, Clay Helton’s Trojans have lost a commit from their 2017 recruiting class.

On Thursday, 3-star prospect Wylan Free decommitted from USC. The nation’s No. 72 cornerback originally committed to Helton’s staff on July 30, but he released a statement regarding his decision to back off his pledge to the Trojans.

“First, I want to thank you [USC] for considering me to be a part of the Trojan family. [The] University of Southern California is a very prestigious school, and anyone would be honored to attend [it]. Unfortunately, after further consideration and talking it over with my family, I have decided to respectfully announce my decommitment from USC, and [I will] open up my recruiting process again.”

On Sunday, USC also lost a commitment from 3-star recruit Daniel Green, who ranks as the No. 14 inside linebacker in the country. Green originally pledged to the Trojans in May.

With Free’s decommitment, USC now has 14 total commits in their 2017 recruiting class but still sits at No. 15 in the class rankings, two points ahead of No. 16 Colorado.

Helton could be looking to fill the void Green and Free have left behind with a former Oregon commit. Following Mark Helfrich’s firing from the Ducks, 4-star cornerback Deommodore Lenoir was one of a few recruits to decommit from Oregon. The Trojans appear to be the favorite to land Lenoir, especially considering the fact Adoree’ Jackson reached out to Lenoir following his decommitment.
