The Wisconsin Badgers have made it to the NCAA Tournament. Here’s a preview of the team and a prediction of how they’ll do during March Madness.

    Resume

    Team: Wisconsin Badgers

    Record:
    20-12

    Conference:
    Big Ten

    Head coach:
    Greg Gard

    How they got here:
     At-large bid

    The Good

Wisconsin has been winning by controlling the tempo and limiting mistakes, and it starts on the glass. Nigel Hayes and Ethan Happ are both solid in the paint, and Hayes has the perimeter game to create room in the lane for his teammates. Bronson Koenig can knock down the open jumper, and the Badgers use their depth and experience to wear down opponents. It’s not the grind-it-out style of old for UW, but this is a team that has gotten more comfortable as the season has progressed.

    The Bad

A lack of athleticism is an issue for the Badgers, as is the presence of the solid back-to-the-basket scorer. Happ can be that guy in stretches, but his inconsistency has hurt UW at times. As Hayes and Koenig go, so go the Badgers.

    Prediction

Wisconsin is the kind of disciplined team that will give every opponent headaches in the NCAA Tournament, but this is Greg Gard’s first go-around as a head coach in the NCAA Tournament, so a deep run is unlikely. We’re calling a second-round out.
