Congratulations, Mississippi State! One of the best outside linebackers in the 2017 recruiting class is coming to Starkville, as Willie Gay has committed to play for the Bulldogs.

Gay, the No. 51 overall prospect and No. 3 outside linebacker in this year’s class, chose to join head coach Dan Mullen’s club over the likes of LSU, Michigan and Ole Miss. It is a big get for the Bulldogs, as Gay played at Starkville HS, just a few miles from Davis Wade Stadium, and was considered an LSU lean.

The 6-foot-1, 215-pound Ray is extremely fast and athletic, but will need to add some bulk to his slight frame to be able to withstand the punishment that takes place over the course of a college football season. He has the ability to play against both the run and pass, with his closing speed making him a great rusher from the outside to get to the quarterback.

While his tackling technique will need some work, his instincts are some of the best in this year’s class, including when in coverage.
