Report: Will Muschamp Being Considered By South Carolina

Will Muschamp is reportedly "getting some consideration" from the South Carolina Gamecocks for their open head coaching position.

The 2015 season is in the books for the South Carolina Gamecocks, which means it’s time for the program to turn its full attention to the coaching search at hand.

One target who’s reportedly on South Carolina’s list is former Florida head coach and current Auburn defensive coordinator Will Muschamp.

“Auburn DC & ex UF coach Will Muschamp is getting some consideration from South Carolina for its HC vacancy, source tells Fox Sports,” tweeted Bruce Feldman.

What exactly “some consideration” means is unclear, but there appears to be interest from South Carolina.

J.C. Shurbutt of confirmed the news on Twitter, tweeting “I am hearing the same thing on South Carolina as Feldman – Will Muschamp is in the mix.”

Muschamp is coming off a failed tenure at Florida. Despite a plethora of talent, he went just 28-21 with the Gators and could never quite figure out how to get the offensive side of the ball rolling. Jim McElwain followed Muschamp and led the Gators to a 10-2 mark and berth in the SEC Championship in just one season.

After several years of success under the offensive-minded Steve Spurrier, it’s hard to imagine South Carolina turning to a defensive-minded coach who wasn’t able to get the job done at a fellow SEC East program.
