Three-star quarterback Will McBride flipped his commitment from Memphis to Tennessee on Tuesday night, giving the Volunteers 25 total commits in their 2017 recruiting class.

On the same day Butch Jones’ Volunteers lost a commitment from 3-star defensive end Tre Lawson, they ended up adding another 3-star recruit to the other side of the ball.

Will McBride, the No. 82-ranked quarterback in the 2017 recruiting class, flipped his commitment to from Memphis to Tennessee on Tuesday night. McBride, from League City, Texas, is also ranked as the No. 13 quarterback in the Lone Star State.

The 3-star prospect released a statement explaining why he was giving his pledge to the Vols.

“I believe everything happens for a reason, and God has truly presented me with an opportunity of a lifetime. I’m excited to say that all the hard work has paid off, and that I will be continuing my athletic [and] academic career at the University of Tennessee.”

McBride’s decision to flip his commitment comes on the heels of an official visit to Knoxville last weekend right before the recruiting dead period began. That time spent with the Tennessee coaching staff followed an official visit to Memphis on Dec. 9 — a day after McBride was offered by the Vols.

The Vols stayed put at No. 8 in the 2017 recruiting rankings thanks to McBride taking Lawson’s spot in the class. However, it did cost Tennessee a few recruiting points. Prior to Lawson’s decommitment, the Vols had 3,036 recruiting points. Following McBride’s commitment, Tennessee now has 2,986 recruiting points.
