The Wichita State Shockers have made it to the NCAA Tournament. Here’s a preview of the team and a prediction of how they’ll do during March Madness.

    Resume

    Team: Wichita State Shockers

    Record:
    24-8

    Conference:
    Missouri Valley

    Head coach:
    Gregg Marshall

    How they got here:
    At-large bid

    The Good

The Shockers aren’t lacking in experience and feature two guys who have a long history of shining in the NCAA Tournament. Ron Baker can score, pass and rebound, and he doesn’t make many mistakes on the floor. Fred Van Vleet is among the best point guards in the nation, and his ability to run the break will make the Shockers dangerous. This a team that likes to play fast and turn missed shots into transition opportunities.

    The Bad

The Shockers are a step below what they’ve been the last couple of years, and it has been a while since they faced quality competition. When teams have been able to control the tempo or get Baker and Van Vleet in foul trouble, WSU has run into issues, and the team’s inability to consistently shoot from the perimeter makes the Shockers vulnerable.

    Prediction

This isn’t the Shockers of the past, but Van Vleet and Baker can push their team to a win or two. Getting to the Sweet 16 would be a big surprise, but WSU isn’t going to go away easy, and the Shockers will undoubtedly be a sexy pick to pull off an upset. It won’t be a deep run this year, though.
