The West Virginia Mountaineers will travel to Manhattan to face off against the Kansas State Wildcats in the final regular season game of the season this Saturday.

The Mountaineers (7-4, 4-4 Big 12) are heading into this one red hot as they’ve won four straight after losing their first four conference games. Last time out, West Virginia took care of business with a 30-6 win over Iowa State. Leading 13-6 at halftime, the Mountaineers scored 17 unanswered points in the second half to bust the game open and secure the victory. Skyler Howard had it going for West Virginia, passing for 202 yards, running for 73, and accounting for two total touchdowns. The Howard-Shelton Gibson connection proved successful for the Mountaineers as the two hooked up six times for 148 yards and a 60-yard touchdown to open the game. The West Virginia defense wreaked havoc on the Iowa State, holding the Cyclones to just 93 yards rushing and forcing three turnovers.

The Wildcats (5-6, 2-6 Big 12) have won two straight games and if they extend it to three on Saturday, they’ll become bowl eligible for the sixth-straight year. Kansas State’s last win came a week ago, when it took down in-state rival Kansas, 45-14. The Wildcats and Jayhawks were tied at seven early in the first quarter, but Kansas State outscored Kansas 38-7 the rest of the way. Joe Hubener and Winston Dimel each had two rushing touchdowns apiece to lead the Wildcat offense. Kansas State also got some help from special teams, which blocked a punt that was recovered by Morgan Burns for the touchdown. It was Burns’ third straight game with a special teams touchdown.

West Virginia and Kansas State will face off for just the fifth time on Saturday, with the Wildcats leading by a 4-1 count. Kansas State is 3-0 in the series since West Virginia joined the Big 12.

    Prediction

West Virginia will be solid enough offensively to take Kansas State out of its comfort zone, but at home, the Wildcat offense will get the job done with one of its more effective performances. The Mountaineers are far better, but they won’t look like it.
