    Cactus Bowl Recap

Score: West Virginia 43, Arizona State 42

Prediction: Arizona State 37, West Virginia 30, Line: PK, o/u: 65.5

And You Care Because … The two teams bombed away back and forth with West Virginia’ Skyler Howard throwing five touchdown passes including a 15-yarder to D Sills with just over two minutes to play. The Mountaineers – who got an earlier extra point blocked for a two-point conversion – hit the extra point to take the lead. Arizona State couldn’t answer fizzling out on its final drive. The Sun Devils kept up all game long with Mike Bercovici throwing four touchdown passes including two to Tim White – who returned the extra point attempt – from two and 33 yards out. West Virginia kept on coming with Howard throwing and throwing some more, finding Daikiel Shorts for touchdown passes from ten yards out and 17 yards away along with a 64-yard play to Gary Jennings. The two teams also combined for a Cactus Bowl record seven field goals.

    What Else?

    – Total Yards: West Virginia 676 – Arizona State 520

Game Rating: A. Now THAT’S how you end a bowl season. Both teams were slinging it from the start with lots of big plays, lots of offense, and two scintillating passing performances. ASU’s Mike Bercovici threw for 418 yards, and he still was light by over 100 yards keeping up with the West Virginia passing attack.
