The West Virginia Mountaineers have made it to the NCAA Tournament. Here’s a preview of the team and a prediction of how they’ll do during March Madness.

    Resume

    Team: West Virginia Mountaineers

    Record:
     26-8

    Conference:
    Big 12

    Head coach:
    Bob Huggins

    How they got here:
     At-large bid

    The Good

Few teams bring as much balance to the floor as West Virginia. Six players average at least 9.0 points, led by Jaysean Paige. Paige does a good job of getting to the rim, and he is always in attack mode. Devin Williams is a threat to post a double-double every time out, and this team creates headaches for opponents because they have to guard all over the floor.

    The Bad

This isn’t a team that can rally easily because it doesn’t shoot the ball well from beyond the arc. West Virginia’s defense is frantic and forces a lot of turnovers, but the Mountaineers also turn the ball over plenty themselves, and against teams with poise, West Virginia can be more than vulnerable. Poor free-throw shooting is an issue in close games.

    Prediction

Bob Huggins loves this time of year, especially since teams don’t have much time to prepare for what he’s throwing at them. A trip to the Sweet 16 certainly is a possibility, and depending on the matchup, this could be an Elite Eight team.
