    And You Care Because … In a crazy, high-scoring shootout, it was the Boise State defense that came up with one final stop to end it, stalling a Nevada comeback. The Wolf Pack started out the fourth with a pick six from Ian Seau to pull within eight, but Boise State pulled away with Jay Ajayi’s third rushing touchdown of the day from two yards out. Nevada got a 12-yard Jarred Gipson touchdown catch, and a 45-yard Brent Zuzo field goal to pull within six, but that was it as the last drive stalled. Nevada QB Cody Fajardo was picked off four times, with one brought back for a score by Tyler Gray, but he ran for two touchdowns including dashes from 13 and 56 yards out in a nip-and-tuck battle. Boise State was down five in the first half, but went on a 28-7 scoring run helped by a two-yard Grant Hedrick run and Ajayi scores from one and 26 yards away going into the fourth. 
    What Else? Boise State RB Jay Ajayi ran 27 times for 152 yards and three touchdowns, and caught three passes for 18 yards 
    – Nevada QB Cody Fajardo completed 23-of-43 passes for 306 yards and three scores with four interceptions, and ran 12 times for a team-high 71 yards and two touchdowns 
    – Turnovers: Nevada 4 – Boise State 3 
    – The two teams combined to convert 17-of-29 third down chances

    Oct. 4 at Air Force 30, Navy 21 
    And You Care Because … Garrett Brown caught touchdown passes from 54 and 13 yards out, with the last one coming with 35 seconds to play to put the game away for Air Force. Navy stayed alive with a 46-yard Chris Swain touchdown run and a ten-yard Keenan Reynolds run, and pulled within three late on a 40-yard DeBrandon Sanders touchdown catch, but the Falcons cranked out the scoring drive they needed to put it away. 
    What Else? Air Force QB Kale Pearson completed 11-of-16 passes for 112 yards and three touchdowns, and ran 13 times for 61 yards 
    – Navy QB Keenan Reynolds completed 6-of-14 passes for 126 yards and a touchdown with an interception 
    – Rushing yards: Navy 251 – Air Force 198 
    – Air Force RB Jacobi Owens ran 23 times for 78 yards, and Navy RB Chris Swain ran 14 times for 103 yards and a score

    Oct. 3 at Fresno State 24, San Diego State 13 
    And You Care Because … Fresno State capitalized off of two key takeaways and pulled away late with Marteze Waller running for a five-yard score to keep down the struggling Aztecs. The Bulldogs got up 10-0 helped by a one-yard Brandon Connette touchdown run, and SDSU was only able to answer with two Donny Hageman field goals before the O finally got into the end zone early in the fourth on a five-yard Adam Robert touchdown run to pull within four. Fresno State held on over the final ten minutes. 
    What Else? Fresno State defense? Problems? Total yards: Fresno State 315 – San Diego State 270 
    – San Diego State QB Nick Bawden completed 9-of-24 passes for 84 yards and a score with two picks 
    – Fresno State QB Brian Burrell completed 14-of-28 passes for 143 yards and a pick 
    – San Diego State RB Donnel Pumphrey ran 24 times for 94 yards

    Oct. 3 Utah State 35, at BYU 20 
    And You Care Because … BYU star QB Taysom Hill suffered a broken leg in the first half and the team’s dreams of crashing the College Football Playoff party came to a stop as Utah State scored 21 straight points in the final 4:40 of the first half thanks to Darell Garretson, who ran for a five-yard score and found Devonte Robinson for a 22-yard score and, in the final minute, hit Hunter Sharp for a 72-yard touchdown. Down 14, the Cougars couldn’t rally in the second half mustering just two Trevor Samson field goals. The Aggies put it away late in the third on a one-yard Nick Vigil run. 
    What Else? Utah State QB Darell Garretson completed 19-of-25 passes for 321 yards and three scores, and ran for a touchdown. 
    – Before getting hurt, BYU QB Taysom Hill completed 8-of-11 passes for 99 yards and a score, and ran seven times for 35 yards and a touchdown. Christian Stewart completed 10-of-29 passes for 172 yards and three interceptions. BYU RB Jamaal Williams ran 17 times for 99 yards 
    – Utah State WR Hunter Sharp caught five passes for 173 yards and a score, Devonte Robinson caught six passes for 98 yards and two touchdowns 
    – Penalties: Utah State 12 for 105 yards – BYU 9 for 60 yards

    Oct. 4 at Rice 28, Hawaii 14 
    And You Care Because … Darik Dillard ran for two short scores and Driphus Jackson hit James Mayden for an 81-yard touchdown pass and put the game away with a 31-yarder to Jordan Taylor as Rice scored 21 unanswered points in the second half for the win. Hawaii had a 14-7 lead in the third quarter on Scott Harding’s second touchdown catch – scoring from 20 and 24 yards out – but the offense kept turning it over in key spots. 
    What Else? Rice RB Darik Dillard ran 23 times for 141 yards and two scores 
    – Hawaii WR Scott Harding caught four passes for 67 yards and two touchdowns 
    – Turnovers: Rice 3 – Hawaii 2 
    – Total yards: Rice 391 – Hawaii 261

    Oct. 4 at Colorado State 42, Tulsa 17 
    And You Care Because … Rashard Higgins caught three first half touchdown passes from 28, 31 and 73 yards out, and added a 36-yard touchdown in the fourth, and Dee Hart ran for touchdowns from 15 and 13 yards away in the blowout. Tulsa tried to stay alive with a one-yard Dane Evans run and a 62-yard pass play to Keevan Lucas, but never got close. 
    What Else? Colorado State WR Rashard Higgins caught six passes for 178 yards and four touchdowns 
    – Tulsa QB Dane Evans completed 16-of-29 passes for 222 yards and a touchdown with two picks, and ran 16 times for 22 yards and a score 
    – Colorado State RB Dee Hart ran 11 times for 143 yards and two touchdowns 
    – Yards per carry: Colorado State 7.5 – Tulsa 2.8

    Oct. 4 New Mexico 21, at UTSA 9 
    And You Care Because … After getting down 9-0 on a six-yard Jarveon Williams touchdown run and a Sean Ianno field goal, New Mexico scored 21 unanswered points with Crusoe Gongbay running for a one-yard score and Lamar Jordan running for a nine-yard touchdown in the third, and Jhurell Pressley taking off for a 77-yard touchdown in the fourth. UTSA’s offense sputtered in the second half, but New Mexico controlled the game. 
    What Else? New Mexico QB Lamar Jordan completed 7-of-11 passes for 72 yards, and led the team with 106 yards and a touchdown on nine carries 
    – UTSA QB Blake Bogenschutz completed 10-of-16 passes with a pick

    Oct. 4 at San Jose State 33, UNLV 10 
    And You Care Because … UNLV scored first, taking a 7-0 lead into the second quarter on a one-yard Blake Decker run, and then it was all San Jose State scoring 33 straight points helped by four Austin Lopez field goals and highlighted by an 83-yard run from Tyler Ervin. Hansell Wilson put the game well out of reach in the fourth on a 51-yard touchdown catch. UNLV didn’t get back on the board until the fourth with Jonathan Lewis hitting a 25-yard field goal. 
    What Else? Total yards: San Jose State 542 – ULLV 221
    – San Jose State QB Joe Gray completed 20-of-30 passes for 264 yards and a score, and ran 12 times for 18 yards and a touchdown 
    – UNLV QBs combined to completed 11-of-28 passes for 116 yards and a pick 
    – Time of possession: San Jose State 38:41 – UNLV 21:19
