San Jose State rallied back in the final minute to score on a six-yard Kenny Potter touchdown run to pull within one, but missed on the two-point conversion attempt. RB Tyler Ervin tried to throw it, but the play failed, BYU recovered the onside kick, and the Spartans lost their shot. BYU appeared to be cruising right along with a 14-3 lead on a four-yard Mitch Mathews touchdown catch and a five-yard Algernon Brown run, but San Jose State came back starting late in the first half on a 61-yard pick-six from Cleveland Wallace. BYU got up for good on a 31-yard Trevor Samson field goal. SJSU outrushed BYU 122 yards to 36 – Ervin finished with 80 yards on 23 carries.
Player of the Game: BYU LB Fred Warner made seven tackles with two sacks and a fumble recovery.

DeShone Kizer threw five touchdown passes with three to Will Filler, including plays from 47 and 46 yards out for a 21-3 first half lead. The third scoring play from 14 yards out all but put it away midway through the third. Kizer ran for a two-yard score for a 42-17 Irish lead before Pitt came up with 14 late points – Tyler Boyd caught a 51-yard touchdown pass and Ejuan Price returned a fumble 32 yards for a score – in the final few minutes. Josh Adams ran 20 times for 147 yards for the Fighting Irish.
Player of the Game: Notre Dame QB DeShone Kizer completed 19-of-26 passes for 262 yards and five scores to go along with a scoring run, and WR Will Fuller caught seven passes for 152 yards and three touchdowns.
