    Why You Need To Care

Three games left. Two wins needed to qualify for a December bonus game. Arizona State and Washington are in similar, leaky boats as the final leg of the regular season begins. The Sun Devils have been one of this year’s biggest Pac-12 disappointment, losing their last three to Utah, Oregon and Wazzu. However, ASU could be in U-Dub’s head this weekend, since it’s won the last nine meetings between them. The Huskies are so close to getting over the hump, but youth and poor offensive execution have stunted their growth. They’ve beaten USC at the Coliseum and throttled Arizona, but couldn’t close the deal in tight games with Boise State, Cal, Oregon and Utah.

    Why Washington Will Win

The defense has been terrific all year long, with very few exceptions. The Huskie D leads the Pac-12 in scoring, yards per carry and touchdown passes allowed. Washington is young and improving each week around NT Elijah Qualls, assertive linebackers Cory Littleton, Azeem Victor and Travis Feeney and CB Sidney Jones. ASU’s inconsistency on offense, especially up front, will get exposed against the Huskies; no one in the Pac-12 has allowed more sacks and tackles for loss than the Sun Devils.

    Why Arizona State Will Win

The Sun Devils have the veteran quarterback and the higher ceiling on offense. While Husky Jake Browning is still learning, ASU’s Mike Bercovici has thrown 19 touchdown passes, including a pair of five-TD games. Plus, Bercovici is finally comfortable with his supporting cast, namely backs Tim White and Kalen Ballage and receivers Tim White and Devin Lucien. The Devils won’t let loose, but they’ll be more likely to convert late in a close game than Washington.

    Player Who Matters

The Washington front wall hasn’t exactly been airtight this season either, yielding 24 sacks. And that’s a looming problem against an Arizona State defense that loves to pin its ears back and attack the pocket. The Sun Devils are No. 5 nationally in tackles for loss, spearheaded by S Jordan Simone and linebackers Salamo Fiso and Antonio Longino. If the back seven can rattle Browning, he’ll respond with forced throws and possibly turnovers.

    What’s Going To Happen?

It’s desperation time for Washington and especially Arizona State. The Sun Devils must snap the losing streak at once, or else there’s no salvaging what remains in the season. The punters will be active and the defenses will have the upper hand. But when a play needs to be made in the second half, Bercovici will deliver, helping rescue ASU before the skid reaches four games.
