    Why You Need To Care

Wazzu and Arizona may be in the second tier of Pac-12 teams, but both are playing well and riding two-game winning streaks. The Cougars just defeated both Oregon teams, including the Ducks in Eugene, and are on the brink of a rare three-game streak. With a win in Tucson, it’ll set up a very interesting Halloween visit from Stanford that’ll have North Division implications. The Cats have battled back from ugly losses to UCLA and the Cardinal with wins over Oregon State and Colorado. With a treacherous final month ahead, they better achieve bowl-eligibility now.

    Why Washington State Will Win

Luke Falk is quickly becoming the archetype at quarterback for head coach Mike Leach. The sophomore has thrown 21 touchdown passes, including 11 in the last two games alone. And now he gets to face an Arizona defense that’s mediocre in coverage and doesn’t generate much pressure. Plus, Falk will be operating his air show in warm and sunny Tucson.

    Why Arizona Will Win

The Wildcats are beginning to push the right buttons again on offense. Arizona has averaged 41 points in its last two games, with the staff pushing all of the right buttons. RB Nick Wilson was injured last week, so RichRod inserted into the lineup Jared Baker, who rushed for 207 yards, and employed the skills of complementary quarterbacks Anu Solomon and Jerrard Randall. Stopping the run has been a problem for Wazzu, which gives up five yards a carry.

    Player Who Matters

Arizona’s best way to stop Falk and his bevy of receivers will be to play keep-away on Saturday. So, whether Wilson, Baker or Randall gets the bulk of the touches, the Wildcats are looking for longer, ground-based drives that milk the clock and frustrate the Cougars. Wazzu will pressure the pocket, but aside from linemen Destiny Vaeao and Hercules Mata’afa, the front seven struggles when opponents run directly at it.

    What’s Going To Happen?

Washington State is no fluke. And it’s already proven it can win on the road, beating Rutgers and Oregon. But Arizona is gradually exiting its early-season funk, aided by an evolving attack. The Wildcats will again locate the right blueprint for offensive success, but they’ll need all 60 minutes to put away the Cougars.
