Warriors forward Draymond Green will be suspended from Tuesday’s game against the Hawks for his role in an altercation with Kevin Durant at the end of Monday’s contest against the Clippers, according to Stadium NBA Insider Shams Charania. Green and Durant had to be separated by teammates during the incident.

According to the Warriors, Green’s suspension is due to “conduct detrimental to the team.”

Green challenged Durant about his impending free agency during the confrontation, according to Charania. The Warriors will likely have to make a decision impacting Durant, Green and Klay Thompson this offseason, and it will take some serious cap gymnastics to keep all three stars in the Bay Area for an extended period of time.

The play in question involved Green dribbling up the court and ignoring Durant’s apparent calls for a pass with the game tied. Green turned the ball over and the Warriors wound up losing to the Clippers 121-116 in overtime after going on a 19-5 run to force the extra period. According to Charania, teammates addressed Green about the turnover, who then responded by going at Durant about his free agency, among other topics.

Golden State has been predictably brilliant this season. The Warriors are second in the league with a +9.9 point differential and sit at the top of the Western Conference with an 11-3 record ahead of Tuesday’s contest. It’s unlikely this incident will result in long-term chemistry issues for the Warriors, but this is the first public sign of potential discord within the team.

Maybe Steph Curry’s impending return will smooth things over, but the front office and coaching staff appear to be taking a stand by suspending Green for a game for his actions.
