Virginia vs. Syracuse picks for the NCAA Tournament’s Elite Eight matchup between the Cavaliers and Orange.

The Virginia Cavaliers are, bar none, the best defensive team in the entire country. From the second George Clooney’s doppelganger, Tony Bennett, set foot in Charlottesville, he’s planted his flag on what was a run-of-the-mill program. The Cavaliers have the ability to stifle any team’s offensive flow.

Along with the defense, there’s the force that is Malcolm Brogdon. The ACC’s player of the year has been the best player on the court in every game he’s played this tournament. The Cavs can lock down teams and they can score in a shootout. They’re one of the tournament’s most complete teams.

Syracuse wasn’t supposed to make it this far, but here the Orange are, one game away from the Final Four. Cuse’s zone defense has stifled its first three opponents in the NCAA Tournament, giving up just 51 to Dayton, 50 to Middle Tennessee and 60 to Gonzaga.

Jim Boeheim and the Orange now face a familiar foe in UVA, who won the only meeting between the two teams this season, 73-65.

Below are the Campus Insiders Virginia vs. Syracuse picks.

    Jonathan Bass

Virginia is the best team at disrupting opponents’ flow. The Hoos’ defense takes them to the Final Four.

    Pete Fiutak

FIIIIIINE. It’ll start believing in you, Virginia. Both teams play great defense, but the Cavaliers do it better. And now they’re cranking up the offense, too. This isn’t your older brother’s boring Virginia – at least not lately. UVa owns the boards on the way to the Final Four.

    Glenn McGraw

Have to go with Virginia and its lockdown defense. Syracuse will hang tough for a while thanks to its zone defense, but Virginia is just too good on both sides of the ball.

    Robert Judin

Despite Virginia taking the first meeting this season, this one is going to be all about Syracuse’s famous zone defense. The Orange by a bucket.
