March 14, 2016The Virginia Cavaliers have made it to the NCAA Tournament. Here’s a preview of the team and a prediction of how they’ll do during March Madness.
Team: Virginia Cavaliers
Record: 26-7
Conference: ACC
Head coach: Tony Bennett
How they got here: At-large bid
Virginia is hungry, it plays solid defense and is fantastic when it controls the tempo. The experience of Malcolm Brogdon, Anthony Gill and London Perrantes will take UVA far, and this is a team that does a great job of playing within itself and rarely straying from the script. This could be a Final Four team.
When Virginia shoots poorly and opponents can get out in transition, the Cavaliers are vulnerable. This isn’t a team with great size, and although there is plenty of poise from the guards, creating off the dribble isn’t a strong suit. A lack of balance on the roster means that offensive brown outs are a threat.
Virginia is a Final Four candidate, a team that will be sorely disappointed with anything less than a run to the Elite Eight. That doesn’t mean the Cavaliers can’t be beat, but Virginia is experienced and will be playing with a sense of urgency. Tony Bennett’s team will go far.
