February 12, 2016The No. 1 Villanova Wildcats will host the St. John’s Red Storm in Philadelphia on Saturday in the second meeting of the season between these two teams.
The Wildcats (21-3, 11-1 Big East) have churned out four straight wins since their loss to Providence Jan. 23, including an 86-59 blowout of DePaul last time out. Villanova took a 12-point lead into halftime and stormed out of the gates scoring 15 straight points to start the second half on its way to victory. The Blue Demons had a slight edge in three-point shooting (41.2 percent to 39.1 percent) and blocked shots (6-3), but they were outmatched by the Wildcats in every other statistical category. Josh Hart continued his stellar season by leading Villanova with 18 points as four other Wildcats joined him in double figures.
The Red Storm (7-18, 0-12 Big East) have lost 15 straight games and remain winless in conference play. The latest loss was a 92-67 beating delivered by the Georgetown Hoyas Monday night. Georgetown led wire to wire as it took an 18-point lead into halftime and rode that momentum the rest of the way for the easy win. St. John’s trailed in every statistical category except personal fouls, tallying four less than the Hoyas (25-21). Christian Jones led the Red Storm with 14 points and nine rebounds off the bench.
The Wildcats and Red Storm will meet for the 112th time on Saturday as St. John’s leads the all-time series, 59-52. However, Villanova has claimed the last eight meetings, including a 68-63 win over the Johnnies at Madison Square Garden Jan. 31.
Below is everything you need to know about the game, including the Villanova vs. St. John’s online live stream, TV broadcast information, game notes and prediction.
Villanova. By a lot. Josh Hart will have whatever he wants, whenever he wants it against St. John’s, who isn’t equipped to handle the Villanova offense. The Wildcats, on the other end of the court, should have a field day turning Red Storm turnovers into easy buckets in transition. A few other Villanova players will get into the scoring action, but Hart will lead the way and seize the easy win.
