The No. 3 Villanova Wildcats will travel to Providence, R.I. to take on the No. 11 Providence Friars at the Dunkin Donuts Center on Saturday in hopes of evening the season series.

The Wildcats (19-3, 9-1 Big East) have won two straight since their loss to Providence on Jan. 24, including an 83-58 beat down of Creighton on Wednesday night. Villanova needed a 10-0 run to take a halftime lead, but it stayed in control as its lead ballooned to as many as 31 in the second half. The Wildcats cruised to an easy win. Villanova hit a season-high 16 threes on the night for an impressive percentage (55.2) beyond the arc, and it dominated the glass, out-rebounding the Blue Jays, 38-29. Kris Jenkins led Villanova with a game-high 22 points, while Jalen Brunson (16), Josh Hart (13) and Phil Booth (10) all finished in double figures for the Cats.

The Friars (18-5, 6-4 Big East) have lost two of their last three games and are looking to bounce back from a bad loss to DePaul on Tuesday. Providence and DePaul were deadlocked at 38 at the half, but the Blue Demons used an 11-0 run in the second half to take a lead they wouldn’t relinquish, sending the Friars home with the loss. Ben Bentil left the game early with an ankle injury, leaving Providence vulnerable on the glass. DePaul’s bigs took advantage and out-rebounded Providence, 48-24, including 18 on the offensive end. Kris Dunn led the Friars with 14 points and eight assists, but he shot a dismal 5-of-20 from the field.

The Wildcats and Friars will meet for the 96th time on Saturday with Villanova leading the all-time series, 57-38. The last three meetings between these teams at Providence have been decided by six points or less, with the Cats winning twice.

    Prediction

Providence showed against DePaul that without Ben Bentil, they are a very different ball club. The Big East’s leading scorer is a game-time decision Saturday. If he can’t go, it’ll be very easy for Villanova to key in on Kris Dunn defensively and attack inside on a very vulnerable Friars front court. If Bentil can go and show he is anything like he was the last time these two met, we’re in for another Big East classic.

    Game Notes

    • In his last six games, dating to a Jan. 13 win over Marquette, Kris Jenkins has averaged 13.2 ppg and is 17-of-38 from beyond the 3-point arc (.447).
