Villanova vs. Miami picks for the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16 matchup.

Villanova’s second round matchup against the Iowa Hawkeyes was a walk in the park. The Hawkeyes hung close through the first 10 minutes of the game, but Jay Wright’s squad cranked up the heat down the home stretch of the first half and never looked back. What stood out most was Villanova’s balanced offensive attack, with four players scoring in double figures. Every player that saw the court contributed at least five points, which bodes well for the Cats down the stretch. The Wildcats led 54-29 at the half and won 87-68.

With the win, Villanova advances to face a tough Miami team in the second half. The Hurricanes let a double-digit lead slip away against Butler, but Miami’s strong defense was enough to overcome a stingy Bulldogs team that just wouldn’t go away. The play of Angel Rodriguez and Sheldon McClellan late in the game proved to be the difference for the Canes. The key for Miami will be keeping its foot on the gas pedal regardless of the score. If the Canes play tough for a full 40 minutes, watch out.

Here are the Campus Insiders Villanova vs. Miami picks.

    Sam Falcone

Ryan Arcidiacono vs. Angel Rodriguez is going to be an awesome matchup, but the Canes rely a little too much on Rodriguez and McClellan, so Nova advances.

    Robert Judin

This is going to be tough, but the pick has to be Miami. The Hurricanes are riding a hot streak, and Angel Rodriguez will create open looks for himself and his teammates to help the Canes advance.

    Glenn McGraw

Miami’s defense will give Villanova fits. The Hurricanes have the athletes to make life difficult for the Wildcats, but are just too hit or miss on the offensive side and tend to be eratic at times. Turnovers, which almost plagued the Canes against Butler, will be the difference. Wildcats in a close one.

    Ken Bikoff

Miami sets the tempo in this one and it turns out to be too much for Villanova to keep up with. Canes frustrate the Wildcats enough for the win.

    Erik Czupryn

Do we really know how good Villanova is? We will soon find out. Miami seniors Angel Rodriguez and Sheldon McClellan are a dynamic duo, and will prove to be too much for Villanova. Miami dances on.
