Vernon Hargreaves III opened up on Jalen Tabor, calling his former teammate the best cornerback in college football.

It’s been quite the journey for the No. 1 cornerback from the 2013 recruiting class.

Vernon Hargreaves III, the former 5-star prospect and No. 16 overall recruit, spent two years under Will Muschamp at Florida and cemented his name as one of college football’s best cornerbacks.

In his third and final season in Gainesville, Fla., under new head coach Jim McElwain, Hargreaves’ stock remained the same, solidifying him as a probable top-10 pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.

While Hargreaves is at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis to show out for NFL executives, coaches and scouts at the 2016 NFL Scouting Combine, he believes the best has yet to come from the Florida Gators secondary.

Hargreaves told SEC Country he believes his now former teammate, Jalen Tabor, played much better than he did in the 2015 season.

“He probably did,” Hargreaves said. “He is the best corner in college football right now, without a doubt, no question and no debates.”

Tabor, who’s going into his junior season, filled the stat sheet in his second season at Florida with 40 tackles, 14 pass deflections, four interceptions and two defensive touchdowns.

Hargreaves is confident Tabor can get much better, too, better than Hargreaves himself.

“Absolutely. His talent level is through the roof,” Hargreaves said. “He can be as good as he wants to be. I’ve told him everything I have known. He listens. He understands the game. His personality, if you get to know him, you’ll understand why he will be the best.”

If Hargreaves is selected within the first 10 picks, as most mock drafts have him going, Tabor would have a chance to give Florida three consecutive years with a Gator drafted in the top 10 and the fifth straight year with at least one Gator drafted in the first round.

Now, we all have to see if Tabor is up for the challenge of being the game’s best corner, as Hargreaves has officially dubbed him. Even former Ole Miss wide receiver Laquon Treadwell hinted at Tabor being the best corner he’s faced — even though some believe Treadwell was actually referring to Tabor’s teammate, Quincy Wilson. But, regardless, the talent is there.

With great praise, comes great responsibility.
