The Vanderbilt Commodores have made it to the NCAA Tournament. Here’s a preview of the team and a prediction of how they’ll do during March Madness.

    Resume

    Team: Vanderbilt Commodores

    Record:
    19-13

    Conference:
    SEC

    Head coach:
    Kevin Stallings

    How they got here:
    At-large bid

    The Good

Vanderbilt struggled early in the season but has started to find its rhythm over the past couple of weeks. Kevin Stallings has done a great job of keeping his team focused, and the team’s shooting has triggered the renaissance. Wade Baldwin IV is the quick guard who can get to the bucket or knock down the three, and Damian Jones is the power in the paint who draws double teams. The Commodores are balanced and can shoot opponents out of any defense they’re in.

    The Bad

Inconsistency has been an issue for the Commodores, and when their shots aren’t falling, there isn’t much the team can turn to beyond Baldwin and Jones. Even that duo can get sloppy with the ball, and this isn’t a team that is blessed with great athleticism. When the shooting goes away, Vandy does, too.

    Prediction

Vanderbilt managed to get into the NCAA Tournament by the skin of their teeth, so don’t expect the Commodores to last long. Wins over Texas A&M and UK showed what Vandy is capable of on any given night, but with the pressure cranked up, look for an early out.
