USC vs. Oregon prediction roundtable with the Campus Insiders staff. Breaking down what will happen at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum between the Trojans and Ducks.

The Pac-12 is full of disappointing teams, and these two are near the top of the list. Mark Helfrich is fighting for his job, and Justin Herbert is doing all he can to help him. He’ll put up some solid numbers against USC, but the Trojans pull this one out behind three Sam Darnold touchdown passes.
Jonathan Bass
This is like two teams looking into a mirror. Both started the season in underwhelming fashion, the head coaches were on a hot seat, quarterback changes were made, the new guys under center excelled immediately, and now there’s renewed sense of optimism. USC takes it at home, and while Oregon’s disappointing season continues, the Ducks continue to resemble a real football team.
Robert Judin
As Mr. Glenn McGraw would say, nobody wants a team filled with 3-star prospects. But I, as the team’s esteemed recruiting expert, still maintain that stars and rankings mean absolutely nothing when you strap up the pads and line up across from 11 men who want to tear you apart. Justin Herbert was a 3-star recruit, and he’s lighting defenses up for Oregon — as a true freshman. The only problem for the Ducks is he’ll be dealing with another skilled quarterback on the other side of the field. Sam Darnold has been on fire since he took the starting job from Max Browne. And it will be Darnold’s connection with JuJu Smith-Schuster that helps give the Trojans the win here. Plus, USC will run the ball effectively to balance the offense out. Herbert will have a solid game, though.

Sam Darnold and Justin Herbert will have big days through the air, but the difference is the USC ground game. The Ducks will have no answer for Ronald Jones and Aca’Cedric Ware, as Clay Helton continues his Trojans renaissance. I like the balance of USC’s offense more, which gives it the edge in a shootout win over the Ducks.

I have no idea what Robert is talking about up above, but I’m sure it made sense to him. These two teams are disappointing, but the Trojans have seemed to get a little something together as of late. USC wins.
