The USC Trojans have hired Keary Colbert from Alabama to fill a position on the coaching staff, according to SI's Thayer Evans.
February 28, 2016Interim coach-turned-full-time head coach Clay Helton added another piece to his staff over the weekend. Sports Illustrated’s Thayer Evans reported on Saturday that Helton and the USC Trojans have hired Keary Colbert from Alabama.
Colbert spent the last two seasons on Nick Saban’s staff as an offensive analyst for the Crimson Tide. He’ll take on the same role with the Trojans.
Colbert received his coaching start as a grad assistant with USC in 2010. He spent one season as the wide receivers coach with the Georgia State Panthers and then the aforementioned 2014-15 seasons with Alabama.
Prior to setting out on a coaching career path, Colbert bounced around several teams in the NFL and short-lived United Football League.
He was selected by the Carolina Panthers in the second round (52nd overall pick) of the 2004 NFL Draft, where he spent four seasons.
Colbert caught 209 passes during his career with the Trojans, surpassing USC’s previous career receptions leader, Kareem Kelly, who held the mark with 207.
