The Trojans are on a completely different level right now.
There isn’t another team in the Pac-12, and very few in all of college football, recruiting as well as Clay Helton’s team is right now. They capped off a successful 2017 haul on National Signing Day earlier this month, and they’re carrying that momentum over to the 2018 class.
On Sunday night, 5-star prospect Palaie Gaoteote committed to USC. He’s ranked as the No. 1 outside linebacker and No. 16 overall player in the CI 25 rankings. With his verbal pledge, the Trojans now have six total commits in the cycle and moved up from No. 6 to No. 2 in the 2018 recruiting class rankings.
Gaoteote’s commitment is also their second from a 5-star recruit. USC landed Matt Corral in February of 2016, as he was the first member of the Trojans’ 2018 class.
USC has a good shot at adding another 5-star commitment at some point in the cycle, as it’s still chasing Jalen Hall, the No. 1 wide receiver and No. 6 overall player in the CI 25.
