February 3, 2017A water shortage has hit Chapel Hill, leaving the status of Saturday night’s game between UNC and Notre Dame in doubt, according to a report.
UPDATE: The UNC-Notre Dame game has been moved to Sunday at 1 p.m. ET and will be played in Greensboro Coliseum because of the water shortage in Chapel Hill.
North Carolina and the city of Chapel Hill are facing concerns over a water shortage that has hit the area, and that could have an affect on Saturday night’s game at the Smith Center.
The Raleigh News & Observer reported Friday that university officials are concerned about hosting the ACC showdown between UNC and Notre Dame because of the problem. The university cancelled afternoon classes on Friday due to the shortage, which was caused by a major water main break that prevented residents in the area from drinking or using water.
UNC’s basketball spokesman Steve Kirschner said that it was too early to make a call if the game would go on as scheduled or would have to be postponed. Coach Roy Williams was scheduled to hold a media press conference at 2 p.m. ET, but that was cancelled because of the problem.
It’s likely that a decision will not be made until later Friday or early Saturday with the game schedule to tip off at 6 p.m. ET.
