Marcus Paige will miss 3-4 weeks with a hand injury. The North Carolina Tar Heels announced the news on Wednesday.
November 4, 2015The North Carolina Tar Heels were riding high with the 2015-16 season set to begin when they host the Temple Owls on Nov. 13. UNC is ranked No. 1 in the AP Preseason Top 25 Poll for a record ninth time. The Tar Heels were previously tied with the UCLA Bruins for that honor.
Part of the reason for the lofty expectations is senior point guard Marcus Paige.
However, Paige will now have to wait a little bit longer to take the floor after sustaining an injury on Tuesday. He fractured the third metacarpal on his right hand during practice.
“Our team will certainly be challenged in his absence,” Williams said. “We will need everyone up and down the roster to step up their games and take care of each other and our team until he gets back.”
This will mean more minutes for sophomore guard Joel Berry II, a 6-foot, 195-pound guard from Apopka, Fla. Berry averaged 4.2 points in 13.2 minutes last year for the Tar Heels.
UNC should be able to survive without Paige. After all, it’s better that the injury occurred before the season and especially prior to conference play.
