Georgia is coming off a last-minute win against Missouri to open the season, 3-0, while Ole Miss blew yet another big lead, this time a 24-3 margin against Alabama, falling to 1-2 on the season.
Recovering from the loss to the Crimson Tide will have to be quick for the Rebels, as the Bulldogs bring in a potent offense led by running back Nick Chubb. Ole Miss has the talent, but can it stop collapsing in the second half?
Freshman quarterback Jacob Eason has been okay, including throwing for 308 yards and three touchdowns in the 28-27 win over Missouri this past Saturday, but the offense still runs through running back Nick Chubb. Missouri kept him from breaking out, and the Landshark defense of the Rebels will look to do the same.
The Bulldogs’ secondary has been suspect this season, and going against Chad Kelly and the dearth of wide receivers Ole Miss has at its disposal could provide trouble. The defensive front, including Trent Thompson, will have to provide pressure so Kelly can’t sit back and pick the Dawgs apart.
It has been a Jekyll and Hyde year for Kelly, with the good Kelly lighting it up in the first half only to be taken over by the bad side in the second. Both FSU and Alabama made major adjustments to be successful against the Rebels offense after halftime. If Kelly can put together a full game, this team won’t lose many more games.
Defensively, the Rebels will look to pressure the young Eason with a defensive line led by Marquis Haynes, but containing Chubb will be the key focus.
Offense: Ole Miss. Kelly has a lot of weapons; he just needs to avoid the mistakes.
Defense: Tie. The Rebels have given up 93 points in their two losses.
Special Teams: Ole Miss. Kicker Gary Wunderlich is 4-for-4 on field goals.
Coaching: Tie. While Smart is only three games into his head coaching debut season, but does anyone trust Hugh Freeze to keep a lead anymore?
Intangibles: Ole Miss. The Rebels must put the FSU and Alabama losses behind them. Another home crowd will help.
Ole Miss offensive line vs. Georgia defensive line
Protecting Kelly will be priority number one for the Rebels. Keep his jersey clean, and you have a great shot to win.
Spread: Ole Miss -7
Over/Under: N/A
Eason and Chubb have led the Bulldogs to a 3-0 record, but it hasn’t exactly been impressive. After losing the lead to Alabama, Ole Miss will have some fire in themselves and come out ready to play. This time, however, they will hold the lead and get a much-needed victory. Ole Miss by 14.
