April 5, 2016UGA football recruiting update for the week of April 4, 2016, as the Georgia Bulldogs look to carry March’s momentum into a new month.
Kirby Smart and his staff slowed down over the past week and even watched their recruiting class drop a few spots from No. 9 to No. 12 in the 2017 class rankings.
The Bulldogs did offer two new scholarships to a couple of 2017 recruits: 4-star cornerback Amir Riep and unranked wide receiver Austin Connor.
Riep, from Cincinnati, Ohio, also holds offers from Florida, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame and Ohio State, among others.
He’s 6-foot-1, 180 lbs and boasts excellent ball skills and instincts. Riep is a solid tackler and changes directions fairly easily.
Connor, from Irmo, S.C., is similar to Riep in size (6-foot, 180 lbs). He’s quick off the line and can create separation in a hurry when he stretches the field vertically with fly routes. Connor has great concentration and body control in the air.
UGA also found itself in on the top-10 list for 4-star linebacker Will Ignont from Bradenton, Fla. He’s 6-foot-2, 232 lbs and a natural fit at inside linebacker. Ignont diagnoses plays quickly, stuffs running lanes and packs a wallop when he hits ball carriers.
Of course, the Bulldogs would eventually pick up speed. UGA made news a few weeks ago when it offered nine scholarships in one day at St. Thomas Aquinas, and it decided to double that at another high school powerhouse in Florida.
On Tuesday, Smart and his staff offered 18 scholarships in one day at the IMG Academy. Ignont and No. 2 overall recruit Dylan Moses were among them.
