Kirby Smart has a hole on his staff to fill, with news that defensive line coach Tracy Rocker is no longer with the UGA football program.

UGA defensive line coach Tracy Rocker is no longer with the Bulldogs, the Athens Banner-Herald reports.

Rocker had been with the UGA football program since 2014, originally joining as defensive line coach under former head football coach Mark Richt. He remained on the staff after Richt was let go and new head coach Kirby Smart was brought on. In January 2015, Rocker was promoted to associate head coach while still maintaining his title as defensive line coach.

An Auburn alumnus, Rocker has deep SEC ties. Along with playing for the Tigers, he coached at his alma mater from 2009-2010 and was a member of the coaching staff that won the 2011 BCS National Championship. Rocker also had coaching stints at Arkansas and Ole Miss.

In terms of recruiting, some of Rocker’s more notable signees while at UGA include Trent Thompson and Jonathan Ledbetter.

As of post no further information has been given as to the reason for the departure, though there have been rumblings that Rocker engaged in an argument with the mother of recruit Aubrey Solomon. A 5-star defensive tackle out of Leesburg, Georgia, Solomon pledged to Michigan on National Signing Day. He is one of the few top-tier Georgia talents from 2017 to not sign with the home-state Bulldogs.

There is currently no word as to whom Smart will tab to coach the defensive line for the 2017 season.
