January 1, 2017Four-star athlete Tray Bishop committed to Georgia on Sunday night, giving the Bulldogs 22 total commits in the 2017 recruiting class.
On Sunday afternoon, Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs added a huge piece to their 2017 recruiting class when 5-star athlete DeAngelo Gibbs committed to UGA over Alabama at the Under Armour All-America Game.
A few hours later, Smart’s staff secured another big pledge when 4-star prospect Tray Bishop committed to Georgia.
Bishop, the No. 9 athlete and No. 129 overall player in the country, originally committed to Auburn on July 25 but later decommitted from the Tigers on Dec. 13.
It was believed the Florida Gators were making strides in Bishop’s recruitment, but the Dawson, Georgia native decided to stay closer to home and will spend his college career in Athens.
With the addition of Bishop, the Bulldogs now have 22 total commits in the cycle. They added 212 recruiting points with his commitment, bringing their total to 4,659 points. Georgia moves up from No. 3 to No. 2 in the 2017 recruiting class rankings, passing Michigan in the process.
UGA now trails No. 1 Alabama’s class by 331 points.
At 6-foot-3 and 185 lbs, Bishop is built to find early reps with the Bulldogs. He brings ideal size to the safety position, as he is expected to make the full-time move to defensive back in college.
Bishop possesses elite closing speed and above average ball skills. He should fit right into what Georgia wants to do on defense.
