February 3, 2017Trae Young is one of the most sought-after players in the 2017 class, and the 5-star point guard from Oklahoma will make his college decision later this month.
One of the top players in the 2017 class has set a commitment date, and there appears to be two favorites to land his services.
Five-star point guard Trae Young announced Friday on Twitter that he will make his decision Thursday, Feb. 16 in his high school gym, Norman North in Oklahoma.
Kentucky has made a strong push to land the 6-foot-2, 176-pound Young, but the decision likely will come down to Kansas and Oklahoma. Jayhawks coach Bill Self needs a point guard for next season with Frank Mason III exhausting his eligibility, and Young is talented enough to step in and start as a freshman.
Sooners coach Lon Kruger is trying to sell Young on staying home in Norman. Young took in back-to-back Oklahoma games, watching the Sooners fall to Florida last Saturday and rival Oklahoma State on Monday.
Young is a score-first point guard and McDonald’s All-American ranked No. 3 at his position and No. 18 overall in the 2017 class, according to 247Sports. He has range well beyond the 3-point line, but he also has great vision and passing ability. What makes Young so dangerous is that he can score in multiple ways, given his shooting tough, pull-up ability and acceleration to the basket. He’s mostly looking to score, but he keeps his head up on the fast break and evaluates his options quickly.
Crystal ball predictions from 247 Sports lean toward Young choosing Kansas.
