Florida is reportedly losing Torrian Gray to an NFL job. The defensive backs coach leaves yet another void on the Gators’ staff.

Florida now has yet another assistant coaching position that it needs to fill.

According to, defensive backs coach Torrian Gray is leaving Gainesville for a gig with the NFL’s Washington Redskins. The ‘Skins fired veteran NFL assistant Perry Fewell after the 2016 season. Jim McElwain and Co. have already been searching for an offensive line coach after Mike Summers’ departure.

In his lone year with the Gators after leaving Virginia Tech, Gray coached two potential NFL first-round draft picks in Jalen Tabor and Quincy Wilson, and he helped them put together a very solid defensive backs class this past National Signing Day. Six defensive backs signed or enrolled with the Gators in the ’17 cycle, including four-star prospects C.J. Henderson, Brad Stewart and Marco Wilson.

Gray was hired by McElwain to replace Kirk Callahan, who was let go in January 2016 after Florida’s recruiting of defensive backs in that cycle was considered subpar.

The loss of Gray comes on the heels of UF hiring West Virginia running backs coach JaJuan Seider on Friday. It is not yet known what position he will coach in Gainesville, but it is assumed he will coach running backs. Current RBs coach Tim Skipper is expected to move over to the defensive side of the ball.

Per 247Sports’ Ryan Bartow, South Florida defensive backs coach Corey Bell could be in play to replace Gray with the Gators. He has SEC experience, as he played at South Carolina, and he was the director of football operations when new UF defensive coordinator Randy Shannon was the head coach at Miami. He also has extensive recruiting ties in the South Florida area.

UPDATE: According to ESPN’s Brett McMurphy, USF’s Bell is indeed leaving for the same position at Florida after being hired on Jan. 11 as Charlie Strong’s DBs coach.
