Former Ohio State 4-Star Recruit Torrance Gibson Transferring To Cincinnati

Torrance Gibson will get a second chance to play college football under former Ohio State assistant and new Cincinnati head coach Luke Fickell.
Torrance Gibson once was considered a prize recruit for Urban Meyer, but an injury and subsequent suspension kept him from ever playing a down at Ohio State.
But a former Buckeye is giving Gibson a second chance.
Gibson announced Thursday on Twitter that he intends to transfer to Cincinnati, backing out on a previous commitment to a junior college back in December. He first released a statement thanking Ohio State.

Just 10 minutes later, Gibson took to Twitter again to confirm he will transfer to Cincinnati, where former Ohio State co-defensive coordinator Luke Fickell is entering his first season as head coach. Former Buckeyes quality control assistant Joker Phillips also is the Bearcats’ wide receivers coach.

Gibson’s commitment to the Bearcats ends a controversial two years with the Ohio State program. He joined the Buckeyes as a 4-star dual-threat quarterback in 2015 but planned to redshirt due to the depth at the position. Gibson then attempted to play wide receiver to avoid the redshirt, but he was injured in camp and sat out the season.
Prior to this past season, Gibson was suspended for the fall semester for violating the school’s code of conduct policy, with reports stating the suspension stemmed from his former female tutor alleging harassment. Meyer publicly disagreed with the suspension – which was handed down by the school and not the football program – and hoped for Gibson to return for the second semester.
But Gibson never did make it back to the Buckeyes and on Dec. 13 signed to play for Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College next season. A junior college national letter of intent is not binding, so Gibson decided to back out of that in order to play at Cincinnati.
