The No. 12 Baylor Bears will take on their in-state rival Texas Longhorns on Saturday in the final regular season game of the year.

The Bears (9-2, 6-2 Big 12) are looking to finish the regular season on a high note after dropping last week’s double overtime game, 28-21, to TCU in miserable conditions. After a short touchdown run by Trevone Boykin sent the game into overtime, the TCU QB struck again, hitting KaVontae Turpin for the score putting the Frogs up 28-21. Baylor tried three running plays on their only possession before Devin Chafin was stuffed on 4th and 1 to end the game. The Bears racked up 273 yards on the ground, led by Chafin’s 26 carries for 119 yards and a pair on touchdowns. In his first start, Chris Johnson did what he could given the wet conditions, but only managed to complete 7 of 24 pass attempts with 75 total yards and a touchdown. The game ultimately came down to Baylor’s inability to contain a healthy Trevone Boykin, who totaled 164 yards and three touchdowns.

The Longhorns (4-7, 3-5 Big 12) have lost three of their last four games and are looking to bounce back from a tough 48-45 loss to Texas Tech a week ago. Chris Warren III brought Texas within three on a late touchdown run, but the Red Raiders ran out the clock and escaped with the win. Despite the loss, Warren III broke three freshman records in his first career start. He rushed for 276 (sixth-most in school history) yards and four touchdowns. Tyrone Swoopes had his struggles through the air (9-of-18, 52 yards, INT), but made up for it with a solid day on the ground with 15 carries for 92 yards and two touchdowns. In the end, the Horns couldn’t stop the Red Raiders who countered with a strong rushing attack of their own. Texas Tech totaled 293 yards and DeAndre Washington (2 touchdowns) led four different Red Raider players who found the end zone on the ground.

Baylor and Texas will get together for the 105th time on Saturday as the Longhorns lead the all-time series 74-26-4. The Bears have gotten the better of the ‘Horns recently, winning four of the last five matchups.

    Prediction

Texas will get the ground attack rolling, but the defense won’t be able to come up with enough stops against a resurgent Baylor attack that’ll be really, really happy to play in better conditions than it dealt with in Fort Worth. Bear QB Chris Johnson will look far better.
