With the dead period now over, here’s a look at a mock 2017 recruiting class for the Texas Longhorns. Tom Herman is looking to put the finishing touches on his first class in Austin.

We’re now about two weeks away from National Signing Day. The recruiting dead period is over, and Tom Herman’s staff is looking to lay the groundwork for the future of the Texas Longhorns.

Of course, Texas had been recruiting well prior to Herman’s arrival in Austin. But now, he has to land players that fit his culture and his vision for the program. And it appears as though the Longhorns are moving in the right direction.

With that being said, here is a look at a mock Texas Longhorns recruiting class as the 2017 cycle nears its end.

    Sam Ehlinger, 4-Star

When Shane Buechele finally moves on, Sam Ehlinger will step right in and keep the Texas offense going. He’s dedicated to helping the Longhorns return to the top.

    Running Back

    Toneil Carter Jr., 4-Star

Georgia pulled his offer when Sony Michel and Nick Chubb announced they’d return to Athens for the 2017 season. The Bulldogs’ loss was Texas’ gain. Carter is an explosive tailback.

    Daniel Young, 3-Star

Daniel Young flipped from Houston. He was talented enough to play for Herman with the Cougars, and now he’ll be playing college football in burnt orange.

    Wide Receiver

    Damion Miller, 4-Star

Damion Miller is a true downfield threat and has an intriguing combination of size and speed.

    Omar Manning, 4-Star

He’s currently committed to TCU, but with Tim Beck on the staff now, Texas is getting closer toward a potential flip.

    Tight End

    Reese Leitao, 3-Star

A former Nebraska commit, Reese Leitao is one of a few players to flip to Texas following Herman’s hiring.

    Cade Brewer, 3-Star

Cade Brewer flipped his commitment from SMU to Texas after Herman took the job in Austin as well.

    Offensive Linemen

    Derek Kerstetter, 3-Star

The No. 10 offensive guard in the Lone Star State flipped his pledge from Oklahoma State to Texas.

    Defensive Linemen

    Taquon Graham, 4-Star

He’s an athletic defensive end with excellent pass rushing skills.

    K’Lavon Chaisson, 4-Star

It’s a tough battle with LSU, but the Longhorns are in a great position to land Chaisson.

    Lagaryonn Carson, 4-Star

Herman is supposed to meet with Carson about whether or not the talented defensive end holds an offer from the new staff, but Carson has been one of the biggest ambassadors for the Longhorns since he became their first commit in the 2017 class. It’s hard to imagine him being elsewhere.

    Marqez Bimage, 3-Star

He’s yet another recruit Herman flipped from Houston.

    Defensive Backs

    Josh Thompson, 4-Star

Josh Thompson is highly intelligent in coverage and very aware of where his man is while tracking the ball.

    Chevin Calloway, 4-Star

A former Iowa commit, Calloway plays much bigger than he is, and Texas is trending upward for his commitment.

    Kobe Boyce, 3-Star

A sound tackler, Kobe Boyce will quickly find a role in the Texas secondary.

    Javelin Guidry, 3-Star

Javelin Guidry has great ball skills, and it appears as though he’ll be a Longhorn.

    Montrell Estell, 4-Star

Montrell Estell is a true athlete and can provide an impact in all three phases of the game.

    Josh Rowland, 2-Star

Josh Rowland is a JUCO transfer from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.

    Class Ranking Prediction: 25-30
