Texas A&M vs. South Carolina prediction and game preview. Projecting who wins the matchup between the Aggies and Gamecocks.

Texas A&M vs. South Carolina Game Preview

    When: Saturday, October 1 – 4:00 p.m. ET
    Where: Williams-Brice Stadium, Columbia, MO
    TV Broadcast: SEC Network

These two teams could not be heading in different directions if they tried. The Aggies are rolling along after a 45-24 victory against Arkansas, running their record to 4-0 and maybe, just maybe, they have found a defense this season.

South Carolina is pitiful on offense, scoring only 10 points against Kentucky in the loss in Lexington this past Saturday. To stay in the game, the Gamecocks’ defense will have to somehow shut down the explosive passing game led by quarterback Trevor Knight and a plethora of wide receivers.

What To Know About Texas A&M

Head coach Kevin Sumlin has answered all of the critics so far this season, and the Aggies are starting to creep up the rankings and become a serious challenger to Alabama for SEC West supremacy. The defense isn’t exactly lights out, but it has improved in defensive coordinator John Chavis’ second season in College Station. South Carolina will have to look out for the combination of Christian Kirk and Josh Reynolds at wide receiver.

What to Know About South Carolina

Can the Gamecocks get absolutely anything going on offense? South Carolina only gained 268 total yards against a Kentucky defense that is prone to giving up yards and points in bunches. Quarterback Brandon McIlwain completed only half of his passing attempts, and the rushing attack was awful. Linebacker T.J. Holloman leads the Gamecocks defense with 25 total tackles and will focus on putting pressure on Knight to help the secondary against the Aggies receivers.

    Advantages

Offense: Texas A&M. Knight came to College Station at the right time for Sumlin and company.

Defense: Tie. South Carolina hasn’t been losing games because of its defense.

Special Teams: Texas A&M. Kicker Daniel LaCamera is 20-for-20 on extra points and 10-for-12 on field goal attempts.

Coaching: Texas A&M. Sumlin is back in good graces of the 12th Man.

Intangibles: South Carolina. Williams-Brice is a hard place to play, and South Carolina needs a win in the worst way.

    Matchup To Watch

Josh Reynolds vs. South Carolina secondary

Reynolds is having a solid year, catching 17 passes for 370 yards and three touchdowns. His productivity leaves more room for Christian Kirk.

Texas A&M vs. South Carolina Betting Odds

    Spread: Texas A&M -17.5
    Over/Under: 48

Texas A&M vs. South Carolina Prediction

The defense and the crowd will try and keep the Gamecocks in this one early, but it will be no use. Texas A&M has too much talent on both offense and defense. Myles Garrett alone will cause McIlwain to rethink playing the quarterback position, and the Aggies will roll to 5-0.

Texas A&M vs. South Carolina Score Prediction: Texas A&M 38, South Carolina 13
