    Why You Need To Care

Texas A&M needs this win. It’s already bowl bound, and it’s already out of the hunt for the SEC title, but the program needs some more positive wins. October 3rd was the win over Mississippi State, and there hasn’t been anything all that impressive since with losses to Alabama, Ole Miss, and a total clunker against Auburn. Just the second time the two schools have met, A&M win 56-24 two years ago – a loss this week would be a PR disaster.

Vanderbilt came up with a win over Kentucky last week to keep the season alive, but more than that, the team is starting to be more and more competitive. Thanks to the defense overcoming a woeful offense, the Commodores fought through a tough loss to Florida, got past Missouri, and has been far better under Derek Mason. A win over the Aggies, though, would be the biggest moment of the season, setting up a huge game at Tennessee with a chance to go bowling.

    Why Texas A&M Will Win

Vanderbilt still has a scoring problem. If the team had any semblance of a good offensive attack, it would be a far different season with last week against Kentucky the first time all year the O came up with more than 17 points against an FBS team. Texas A&M isn’t above coming up with an offensive disaster like it did against Ole Miss and Auburn, but a few good early scoring drives might be enough to get it done. This isn’t the A&M offensive juggernaut of past seasons, but it has weapons. Vandy doesn’t.

    Why Vanderbilt Will Win

Yeah, yeah, yeah, Vanderbilt doesn’t have an offense – we’ve got it. However, Texas A&M doesn’t have much of a run defense. As good as the pass rush is, and for as much disruption as the Aggies come up with, it’s way too soft when it comes to anyone trying to pound away. A&M has allowed 200 yards or more in every SEC game but one – giving up 196 to Mississippi State. The Commodores can actually run the ball a little bit, and even though they have just four rushing touchdowns against FBS teams, it has a tone-setter in …

    Player Who Matters

Ralph Webb. The Vandy sophomore running back earned 118 yards and a score against Florida, and 113 yards against Kentucky as a string of six games in the last seven with 90 rushing yards or more. Making his work even better is that he’s the only thing defenses are keying on. He’s only averaging four yards per carry, but he’s effective enough.

    What’s Going To Happen?

Texas A&M, welcome to the Vanderbilt defense. The Commodores are on a roll doing a phenomenal job on third downs and keeping mediocre passing games from getting anything going. Despite all the talent and all the receiving weapons, Texas A&M has one of those mediocre passing games. The Commodore defense rises up at home.
