September 19, 2016Texas A&M vs. Arkansas prediction and game preview. Projecting who wins the SEC West matchup between the Aggies and Razorbacks.
When: Saturday, September 24 – 9:00 p.m ET
Where: AT&T Stadium, Arlington, TX
TV Broadcast: ESPN
Both teams are 3-0 heading into their yearly showdown at “Jerry World” in Arlington, and both already have big wins under their belt. The arm of quarterback Trevor Knight and dominance of defensive lineman Myles Garrett have made the Aggies a threat in the SEC West, while running back Rawleigh Williams III leads a formidable Razorback rushing attack.
The winner will get a leg up in chasing Alabama for the division crown. Will the Aggies strong start continue, or can the Razorbacks pull out another close game in the neutral-site location?
The arrival of Knight is a big reason the Aggies are 3-0, as the quarterback position would have been unstable without him. Wide receivers Christian Kirk and Josh Reynolds (not to mention Speedy Noil and Ricky Seals-Jones) gives Knight a plethora of targets, while running back Trayveon Williams can turn a simple play into a touchdown in a hurry.
There might not be a better defensive player in the country than Garrett, who demands double teams from the opponents at all times. Locking him up is no easy task no matter how many players try to block him.
The Razorbacks look to run the ball first, pass second, but quarterback Austin Allen has been effective so far in this early season. Wide receiver Keon Hatcher has been his favorite target, while Williams has been a threat running the ball out of the backfield. The big hogs up front will try to stop Garrett from camping out in the backfield.
The defensive line has been impressive for Arkansas so far, with Jeremiah Ledbetter and Deatrich Wise Jr. pressuring the quarterback and creating chaos after beating their defenders. Putting pressure on Knight so he doesn’t have time to find his receivers will be huge for the Razorbacks.
Offense: Texas A&M. The Aggies have one of the deepest WR units in the country.
Defense: Tie. It will be a great battle between the two defensive lines to see who can create the most havoc.
Special Teams: Texas A&M. Kicker Daniel LaCamera is 9-for-10 in field goal attempts, including 2-for-2 from 40 to 49 yards.
Coaching: Arkansas. Known more for his antics off the field, the truth is Bret Bielema is one hell of a coach.
Intangibles: Arkansas. The Aggies have won all four matchups since joining the SEC. You know Bielema will be reminding his team about that.
Myles Garrett vs. Arkansas Offensive Line
The Razorbacks have had some trouble protecting Allen this season, and now they will face its biggest test against Garrett. He’s good enough to ruin an entire offensive game plan.
Spread: Texas A&M -6
Over/Under: N/A
It’s not Kyle Field or Razorback Stadium, but the atmosphere in AT&T Stadium will be electric with both fan bases salivating for a 4-0 start. Arkansas will try to control the clock by running the ball, but the machine that is Myles Garrett will make that difficult. The Aggies will be able to put points on the board against the Razorbacks defense, and falling behind will make Arkansas have to pass the ball more than they would like to. Sumlin gets another big win, and the 12th Man will begin to let him back into their graces.
Texas A&M vs. Arkansas Score Prediction: Texas A&M 38, Arkansas 28
