Terry Porter spoke with The Seth Davis Show about the timing behind taking the Portland Pilots job, rather than remaining in the NBA ranks.

After two brief coaching stops in the NBA, Terry Porter has taken the challenge of guiding a college team. When discussing the task with The Seth Davis Show, Porter emphasized that it was a matter of timing. Though he had been offered other collegiate jobs in the past, he wasn’t ready.

“I have. I had some other opportunities. People asked me about it. I just wasn’t at the right time of my life. Now is a perfect time to really dive into it and really take a long look at it and see if it was a great fit.”

Porter’s No. 30 jersey was retired by the Trail Blazers in 2008, and as to be expected, people around the Pilots program have fully embraced his new role within the Portland community. That support is something that Porter is appreciative of, as he and his family settle in.

“People at the University of Portland have been great. The whole process has been great. UP Nation and the community have been really embracing in regards to just welcoming me and my family. It’s been good.”
