Former Alabama commit Terrance Ferguson sends tweet regarding his decision to reopen his recruitment.

Terrance Ferguson is one of the most highly-touted college basketball recruits in the country. For a long time he was committed to the Alabama Crimson Tide, which was a bit of a shock given Alabama’s less-than-rich history on the hardwood. New head coach Avery Johnson had landed his first prized prospect in the form of the nation’s No. 13 prospect and No. 5 small forward.

However things took a turn this week when Ferguson withdrew his commitment on Tuesday. The young man recently lost his grandma, prompting him to take a step back and reconsider his future. “He wants to make the right decision,” Ferguson’s coach stated. “He’s very much still interested in going to Alabama, but he wants to pray about it and make sure he’s making the right decision.”

It’s an understandable decision given the nature of what he’s going through right now. The grieving process is never easy, and often affects individuals in different manners. For Ferguson, it’s a reevaluation of a decision that will impact the rest of his personal and professional life.

The Dallas, Tex. prospect took to Twitter following the news, giving brief insight into why he decommitted.

When Ferguson does decide the time is right to commit to a school, he’s going to make one college program very happy, possibly still Alabama.
