Tennessee freshman running back Jeremy Lewis has left the Volunteers program, becoming the third player to depart from Knoxville this season.
The revolving door continues to spin in Knoxville with yet another player having decided to leave the Tennessee football program mid-season. This time it’s freshman running back Jeremy Lewis, as a season that started with great expectations continues to find turbulence for Butch Jones and the Volunteers.
Lewis, a former three-star prospect out Lone Grove, Oklahoma, is the third player to leave the program this season, following in the footsteps of starting running back Jalen Hurd and wide receiver Preston Williams.
Appearing in mop up duty in two games, Lewis had carried the ball six times for 34 yards and no touchdowns.
An obscene amount of injuries, along with the departure of the three players, have forced many young players into action this season. Despite the obstacles, Tennessee could still win the SEC East and play in the conference championship game against Alabama if Florida were to lose to LSU this Saturday and the Volunteers win out. Tennessee’s final two games of the regular season are against divisional cellar-dwellers Missouri (in Knoxville) and Vanderbilt (in Nashville).
