Temple vs. SMU online live stream, TV broadcast information, and predictions. The Owls will make the long trip to Dallas to take on the Mustangs in a matchup between the top and bottom teams in the AAC.
November 5, 2015The No. 22 Temple Owls will make the long trip to Dallas to take on the SMU Mustangs in a matchup between the top and bottom teams in the American Athletic Conference.
After dropping their first game of the season to Notre Dame, the Owls (7-1, 4-0 AAC) are looking to get back on track and should do so as they get back into conference action. Temple held a 20-17 lead over the No. 9 ranked Irish deep into the fourth quarter, but a late Will Fuller touchdown put Notre Dame up 24-20. That would end up being the final score as quarterback P.J. Walker threw a devastating interception as the Owls were driving to potentially win the game. Jahad Thomas picked up most of the slack for the Temple offense that was inconsistent throughout the game. Thomas made his head coach look like a genius as he converted a fourth-down run into a touchdown to tie the game at 17 in the fourth quarter. The defense will hope to rebound after allowing Notre Dame quarterback DeShone Kizer to gain 442 total yards, highlighted by a 79-yard run for a touchdown.
The Mustangs (1-7, 0-4 AAC) have seen better days having lost six-straight games. Last time out, SMU kept it close with Tulsa, but the Mustangs ultimately fell short 41-31 to the Golden Hurricane. Quarterback Matt Davis (19-of-39, 236 yards, 3 TD) and wide receiver Cortland Sutton (8 rec, 165 yards, 2 TD) turned in solid performances for the Mustangs, but SMU was unable to get anything going against Tulsa’s defensive front amounting a mere 84 yards on the ground. It was another loss against a tough opponent for the Mustangs whose losses have come to teams with a combined 42-15 mark, three of whom are still undefeated and ranked in the top 25. Two of those opponents (Baylor and TCU) are ranked in the top five.
Temple and SMU will get together for just the fourth time, with the Mustangs having the only win in a 1-0-2 series. The win was a 59-49 shootout in 2013, while the two ties came back in the 1940’s.
Below is everything you need to know about the game, including the Temple vs. SMU online live stream, TV broadcast information, game notes and prediction.
This is a very tricky spot for head coach Matt Rhule and his Owls because SMU is playing with absolutely nothing to lose. The Mustangs will compete early, much the way they did last week against Tulsa. But like last Saturday, they’ll also run out of gas—and defensive stops—long before the upset can be realized. Temple should win this without much of a problem.
