The Temples Owls have made it to the NCAA Tournament. Here’s a preview of the team and a prediction of how they’ll do during March Madness.

    Resume

    Team: Temples Owls

    Record:
    21-11

    Conference:
    American Athletic Conference

    Head coach:
    Fran Dunphy

    How they got here:
     At-large bid

    The Good

The Owls don’t run anyone out of the gym, but they do a good job of hitting the glass and are solid when they can control the tempo. Quenton DeCosey is a fine scorer and rebounder, and he doesn’t get sloppy with the ball. Obi Enechionyia can knock down the open jumper and stretch the floor, and few teams are more patient with the ball.

    The Bad

Temple lacks the athleticism to run with other teams, and a lack of quickness can allow them to get beat off the dribble. The Owls don’t have active hands on defense, either, which means their transition game rarely gets going off of steals. Matchups are everything to the Owls, and they struggle to change their own style when they get behind.

    Prediction

The Owls have looked solid at times, but it hasn’t really beaten an elite team save for a win over SMU Jan. 24. Temple will be dangerous, but this isn’t a team built for the long haul. Winning a game would be a success story. Winning two would be a shocker.
