To call yourself the best at anything is a bold move. Teez Tabor is one of the boldest guys you’ll meet.
There are quite a few people who didn’t even believe Tabor was the best cornerback on Florida’s roster this past season. Many felt Quincy Wilson was more deserving of that title, and Wilson certainly got the best of Tabor with their 40-yard dash times. But that isn’t stopping Tabor from boasting in front of NFL scouts, coaches and executives at the 2017 NFL Scouting Combine.
“I feel like I’m the best overall player in the draft, not just the best cornerback. That’s just the confidence I have in myself and my ability to play football,” Tabor said.
At 6-foot, 201 lbs Tabor didn’t blow anyone away with his 40-yard dash performance. And the nine reps he put up on the bench press were hardly impressive. With a 31-inch vertical and a 10-foot broad jump, Tabor’s combine stats won’t be what solidify him as a first-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. They also don’t help his case as the best overall player in the draft class.
But he is one of the best cornerbacks in the class, even if Wilson has taken a slight edge in that race after this past season.
With nine interceptions, 28 pass deflections and 104 total tackles in three seasons with the Gators, Tabor had the production at the college level to warrant NFL teams using a top-15 pick on him when the NFL Draft rolls around in late April.
Unfortunately for Tabor, he’s having to answer questions for some off-the-field issues he had at Florida, and that will ultimately affect his draft position as well.
He also gained a reputation for being unafraid to express his opinions and speak his mind. We were reminded of that on Monday.
