This is basically West Virginia’s first true test as they try to validate a No. 12 ranking that just seems way too high for me. On the flip side, TCU has been tested a couple of times and failed against Arkansas and Oklahoma. I tend to lean more toward the home team in matchups like this, so I’m going to stick with the Mountaineers to remain undefeated in a close, high-scoring contest.

I picked the Mountaineers against Texas Tech. And I’m feeling lucky, folks. Maybe I should step up to the craps table and try it out. Daddy needs an Aston Martin and an indoor jacuzzi. Eh, whatever, maybe I’ll just try my luck here and pick West Virginia again. Skyler Howard will dominate through the air, and both Rushel Shell and Justin Crawford will torch the TCU defense on the ground. West Virginia wins by two possessions.

Mountaineers defensive coordinator Tony Gibson put together a great game plan last week to contain the high-powered Texas Tech offense, and the ‘Neers received a sound performance from quarterback Skyler Howard and a backfield that produced 332 yards and five scores. I was big on the Horned Frogs coming into the season because a lot of young defenders received experience last season, but it’s been a suspect defense at best. Their losses to Arkansas and Oklahoma were close, so I expect another close one with WVU. It’s in Morgantown, so I’m taking the ‘Neers by a field goal.

My colleague Robert referred to himself as “Daddy” earlier in this article, so I am a little disturbed. Who’s playing again? West Virginia is undefeated? That’s awesome. (Looking at schedule.) Oh, that is why they haven’t lost. They are a good team, though, but I see TCU coming out with a win in this one.
