Five-star defensive tackle Taron Vincent spoke with Campus Insiders and confirmed he’s deciding between Florida State and Ohio State, as a college commitment is looming.

    Then there were two.

News broke on Wednesday that 5-star defensive tackle Taron Vincent was deciding between Florida State and Ohio State, and the IMG Academy prospect spoke to Campus Insiders confirmed it.

Vincent, who’s originally from Baltimore, Maryland, is the son of former NFL cornerback Troy Vincent.

The 5-star recruit is ranked as the No. 1 defensive tackle and No. 7 overall player in the 2018 recruiting class. He made the trip to Tallahassee on Feb. 25 for the Seminoles’ junior day. He hasn’t made a visit to Ohio State since last summer when he attended a recruiting camp, but that trip to FSU was sandwiched by two trips to Clemson. He attended the Tigers’ junior day on Jan. 28 and unofficially visited again last weekend.

Buckeyes fans can rest easily, though. Even though a decision is looming, Vincent has yet to decide on when he’ll announce his college commitment. He first wants to make it back to Columbus with his parents while IMG is on spring break, which begins on March 17.

A successful visit to Ohio State may be all the Buckeyes need to lure Vincent into their 2018 class.

“It depends on how this visit goes. It could be soon after it,” Vincent said of his commitment. “They are pretty even right now.”

Of course, betting against FSU defensive tackles coach Odell Haggins is not a smart move. He led the charge in recruiting former 5-star defensive tackle Marvin Wilson in the 2017 cycle, and the Seminoles had to fight off both LSU and Ohio State for him. So, it’s not as though Haggins hasn’t beaten out the Buckeyes before.

The ‘Noles have definitely set up a pipeline to IMG, dating back to when the Ascenders were led by former FSU quarterback Chris Weinke.

If Haggins can out recruit Ohio State for the nation’s No. 1 defensive tackle — for the second time in two months — FSU will be well on its way to another top-five class.
