    Why You Need To Care

Are you kidding? This is Syracuse-Georgetown. It’s one of the most exciting and electrifying rivalries in college basketball.

What makes it more interesting this time around is the fact that Jim Boeheim won’t be coaching in it. Syracuse’s head coach will begin a nine-game suspension starting with the matchup against the Hoyas because of NCAA violations.

But it’s better than missing nine conference games, which was originally handed down to Boeheim.

The Orange are 6-1 with their first loss coming against Wisconsin in overtime on Wednesday, 66-58.

Georgetown might be licking its chops right now. The Hoyas are 3-3, and after back-to-back wins against Bryant and Maryland-Eastern Shore, they might be riding a three-game winning streak after this weekend.

Buckle up, Syracuse-Georgetown is about to take off again.

    Why Syracuse Will Win

The Orange converts on only 68.5 percent of its free throws, and that’s just not going to get it done. Michael Gbinije leads the team with 19.6 points per game on 51.2 percent shooting, and he’s hitting 51.1 percent of his trees. If he does that, Syracuse will be in great shape. But the Orange have to limit the turnovers and use the zone effectively to get the Georgetown offense out of sorts.

    Why Georgetown Will Win

Don’t fear the zone. D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera and Isaac Copeland are shooting a combined 36.2 percent from deep, and they need to capitalize by knocking down triples against the Orange. The Hoyas average 21.3 three-point attempts per game, and Syracuse allows its opponents to shoot 28.5 percent from beyond the arc. If Georgetown knocks down threes when it has to, everything else will open up.

    What’s Going To Happen?

Syracuse’s zone will work well — even without Boeheim on the bench. Georgetown won’t hit enough threes to distance itself from the Orange. Gbinije will lead all scorers and take whatever he wants on the offensive end. The Hoyas are favored, but after dropping the last one to Wisconsin, Syracuse will come out firing and end up on top.
